Feeling stressed is stressful.

I understand how easy it is to become trapped in the endless cycle of exhaustion and overwhelm. Feeling disconnected from your purpose, guilty from not doing the activities you ‘should’ do, unbalanced and overstimulated trying to juggle ‘me time’ and the weight of your external responsibilities… it only leads to low energy, poor sleep, headaches, tummy troubles, and ongoing procrastination and excuses.

Here’s the thing, your life doesn’t have to feel like chaos. I promise you, even amongst the business of everyday life, there IS room for joy and vitality; you CAN reconnect with your potential and create lasting positive balance. Together, we can enhance your stress resilience so you can flourish in the life you were created to live – both personally and professionally!

Wisdom for our Wellbeing

Dr. Kaitlin uses her clinical experience, evidence-based research, and professional interviewing skills to help her listeners improve their wellbeing. In a series of interviews, she shares the wisdom of other leading clinicians about a broad range of mental health topics. There is something for everyone in this series. Episode 21 provides a good overview of the series, if you want to select particular topics, rather than listen to them in sequence.

🧠 World Mental Health Day reminder: Anxiety and 🧠 World Mental Health Day reminder: Anxiety and depression are so common, and what we know from the research is that they often begin with stress. When our nervous system stays in a state of overwhelm for too long, it can spiral into anxiety… and eventually, depression.

This year’s theme is community, and I love that! Because, regulation doesn’t happen in isolation. Other regulated nervous systems regulate us, just as we do for others. Connection truly is medicine. 💞

This said, we don’t always have another nervous system available to us. So, today I’m sharing some cool ideas for calming your nervous system when you’re distressed.

These exercises aren’t about bypassing emotion, they’re about helping your body find safety first, so your mind can think clearly again.

Which one will you try next time you feel overwhelmed? 👇

👑 I said what I said. The lioness does concern 👑 I said what I said.

The lioness does concern herself with healing that starts in the body.

On World Mental Health Day, I’m not here for surface-level calm or toxic positivity strictly cognitive practices can offer. I’m here for nervous system regulation that’s felt from the inside out.

The @shaktimats mat is one of my favourite tools for body-based calm, gentle acupressure that supports vagal tone, helps downshift tension, and reminds the body it’s safe.

🧘‍♀️ You can learn more somatic tools like this in The Somatic Workbook for Nervous System Regulation and Anxiety Management. There we also talk about the importance of relationships - and the Mental Health Day theme this year is about connecting with your community. 🤗 Because just like the Shakti can be a nervous system regulation tool, so too can another nervous system - co-regulation - along with healthy relationships being the deepest source of meaning in our lives.

Pre-order the Somatic Workbook now for access to the bonus bundle (including video + audio practices and the chance to win a Shakti Mat).

I’ve had so many clients feel like they’ve fai I’ve had so many clients feel like they’ve failed because meditation hasn’t worked for them, without realising there’s often important scaffolding that needs to come first. There are many ways to support nervous system regulation and build present-moment awareness.

Quick definitions:
Meditation is a generally seated, formal practice.
Mindfulness is a deliberate attentional state of awareness.

They’re related, but not the same, and it’s often a formal meditation practice that isn’t as accessible. Sometimes, our system just needs a different entry point to mindfulness practices.

As you’ll read in this article, I’m certainly not saying meditation is ‘bad’ or always contraindicated. In fact, has been an incredible tool in my own life, but it’s not a panacea. When we forget that, we risk turning a healing practice into another “should” that fuels shame and frustration… and potentially adverse events.

If meditation hasn’t worked for you, I hope this piece offers some gentleness and perspective.

Thank you to @bodyandsoul_au for the opportunity to reflect on this 🧠💛🧘‍♀️

And if this topic resonates, you’ll find more practical tools for nervous system regulation and emotional healing in The Somatic Workbook, available now for pre-order with an exclusive bonus bundle. Link in bio or drkaitlin.com/somaticworkbook
